Located in California’s San Francisco Bay hydrologic region, the Napa-Sonoma Valley – Lowlands is 40,297.45 acres in size. This Very Low priority basin is home to an estimated 58,367 people (2010 value). It has approximately 282 wells, of which approximately 16 are water supply wells. Groundwater accounts for approximately 32 percent of the basin’s water supply.

2018: basin priority changed from very low to a draft medium, requiring SGMA compliance. Basin boundary modification requested with Napa-Sonoma Valley – Sonoma Valley May 2018: Napa-Sonoma Valley – Lowlands subbasin 2-002.03 reclassified as medium priority and subjected to SGMA. Adjoining Napa-Sonoma Valley – Napa Valley subbasin 2-002.01 proposed for reclassification from medium to high – Napa Valley Register Basin boundary modification requested with Napa-Sonoma Valley – Sonoma Valley.

2019: Basin boundary modification approved. Per DWR: It “revises and aligns the shared boundary between Sonoma Valley and Sonoma Lowlands to follow the shared Sonoma and Napa County line.” Phase 2 draft priority: Very Low.
